Cinderella's Curfew

-Published in The Oakland Post Blogs

I used to love the moon
before it turned into a spotlight
to showcase my loneliness
every night after you’re gone.

The painted stars are my wish for time
to stop
if only for a moment.
I wait for one to fall.

We stand alone in the dark
shadows cast along the expanse
of glittering snow.
Our chests pressed
arms encircled.

Even when midnight has passed,
we cannot seem to part.
Never let me go.

My love, I should not dread the night,
but I hate seeing you go
and having to find comfort in loneliness until the sun rises.
